Mr Haris Bilal is a Consultant Cardiac & Aortovascular Surgeon based at The Alexandra Hospital, Cheadle (Circle Health Group), serving patients across Greater Manchester and the North West of England. He holds joint appointments in private practice at The Alexandra Hospital and as a Consultant Cardiac Surgeon at Wythenshawe Hospital, Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust.

Specialist Expertise

Professor Bilal’s practice is focused on three areas of advanced cardiac surgery:

• Off-Pump Coronary Artery Bypass (OPCAB) — beating heart bypass surgery without a heart-lung machine, minimising the risk of stroke, kidney injury and cognitive complications. Professor Bilal is one of the UK’s most experienced OPCAB surgeons.
• Aortic Valve Replacement — surgical replacement of the aortic valve for patients with stenosis or regurgitation, including complex re-operative cases.
• Complex Aortic Surgery — including surgery of the aortic root, ascending aorta and aortic arch for aneurysm, dissection and connective tissue disorders.

Training & Qualifications

Professor Bilal completed his undergraduate medical training with MBBS and then trained in general surgery, obtaining MRCS and FRCS (England). He pursued higher surgical training in cardiothoracic surgery, achieving FRCS (Cardiothoracic Surgery) and Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT). He has trained at some of the UK’s foremost cardiac surgical centres and brings a wealth of experience in complex, high-risk cases.

• SCTS / Ethicon Fellowship in Aortic Surgery (2015/16) — Advanced training at Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital under Professor Aung Oo
